Create your niche
Excelling or showing good performance in a job is ok but in this hyper competitive world where everybody is trying to excel and give the best…you need to create your island of excellence. Be known for something which totally belongs to you and you will get noticed.
Your niche could be – excellent documentation, crisis expert, turnaround expert, cost cutting, relationship with key customers, strategizing, implementation, execution ,planning , analysis etc.
Take initiatives
A sure way to get noticedand get ahead is doing more than your responsibilities. Volunteer to chip in for projects which are lagging or getting ignored. Help out peers, colleagues if they get stuck. Go beyond your call of duty. Be ready to dirty your hands if needed and you are on your way to the top.
Experiment with new projects
Develop projects on the side without risking your customer and company money. Create a prototype and demonstrate it to your seniors. If you get ahead anyway you will get the required appreciation. If you do not get the go ahead in any case you will be recognized for your creativity and original thinking. These projects could be for process improvement, market study, competition analysis, training others, new technology etc.
Walk your talk
It is easy to criticize or point out flaws or give suggestions. Better is to roll up your sleeves and get involved in implementing that. The respect and reputation gained would be immense . The person who goes beyond giving suggestions is bound to be taken seriously and is always welcome to review or give feedback on various problems and solutions.
Show your humane side
All work and no play make you robotic.
