I intensely listened to every word of your President Obama's inaugural address yesterday on my way to pick up my 5-year-old daughter, Abigail. I especially loved, "The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.
I also found this interesting: "Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare a nation for a new age." I too believe we are entering a new era. I see the world as having reached its peak of over-consumerism and now changing towards a new awareness of a unified humanity and eventual peace.
I have already begun the "work of remaking America", in a small way...with myself and with helping others make hard choices and preparing for a new age of eating towards a plant-based diet!
With that in mind, a new foundation of self-responsibility can and will reverse the trend of costly healthcare. It will take work, time and money for the education and training in the selection, cooking and eating towards a plant-based diet. Work that I have done, at times successfully and, at other times, unsuccessfully, for over 40 years since my discharge from Vietnam.
It is a difficult task to change our sickness into health, but, in Senator Obama's own words on August 1, 2008 at Gibbs High School, "Now Americans would actually benefit from a change in diet." Each citizen can begin the biological work of rebuilding his or her body in order to have each one of us, "begin again the work of remaking America." Through healthy bodies and healthy minds this rebuilding and remaking can and will be done!
I look forward to seeing the President show Americans how to eat those vegetables you love. How about a weekly show with him and his family selecting, cooking and eating broccoli?
